Natural essences and natural flavors may sound similar, but they are not the same. At Davina Tea Co., we use natural essences, which are USDA organic-compliant and specially made for tea applications. Our natural essences are created using an ethyl alcohol base combined with essences extracted from natural ingredients. The alcohol evaporates when brewed, leaving only the intended flavor behind.

In contrast, natural flavors can be derived from a broader range of sources, including processed extracts, carrier oils, or lab-modified compounds. Many natural flavors on the market contain additives, solvents, or undisclosed processing agents, making them less transparent than true natural essences.

Unlike essential oils, which are not suitable for tea because they do not infuse properly and leave an oily residue, natural essences blend seamlessly into the tea, enhancing the flavor without altering its natural steeping process.

Our natural essences contain no sugar, calories, or artificial additives, and they do not add any nutritional value—only a pure, natural flavor profile. We use them in select blends to enhance depth and balance, such as adding a natural lavender essence to bring out the floral notes in our Lavender Chamomile blend!
